Arts & Culture
Comprehensive Community Development follows in the footsteps of asset-based community development and the "community-building" movement of the 1990s. Practitioners found that community arts and cultural assets were central to both, and they remain so within comprehensive community development.
Across the country, community builders have enlisted the help of arts and cultural organizations, artists, creative residents, arts businesses, and others to foster cultural expression, advance economic development, create visually attractive communities, strengthen education, and increase social ties among residents.
Among prominent funding efforts to encourage a tie between arts and culture and community revitalization are "creative placemaking" programs from the National Endowment for the Arts (Our Town) and ArtPlace.
