Filling Vacancies With Food

In a recent post on the Shelterforce Rooflines blog, LISC NYC Director of Programs Colleen Flynn tells the story of the West Harlem Food Hub, now celebrating its first year. The Food Hub is transforming the idea of a food pantry, from a place to hand out canned goods to a place that brings fresh, healthy food and nutrition education to residents. The Food Hub is also adding vibrancy to the neighborhood by transforming a vacant commercial property into a bustling center that hosts cooking classes, an exercise group and services for community members.
